The Pasig City government has launched a massive initiative to bolster disaster readiness, beginning the distribution of 430,000 emergency go-bags to its residents on Monday, January 29.

During a recent flag-raising ceremony, Mayor Vico Sotto announced that the emergency kits would be distributed house-to-house to ensure every Pasigueño family receives a bag. Mayor Sotto also used the opportunity to remind the public that collective participation is key to the city government’s ongoing pursuit of good governance and effective crisis management.

Comprehensive Kits and Digital Readiness

Each of the city-issued emergency go-bags is stocked with critical items designed for immediate survival and first response. The contents include:

Flashlight, glowstick, and whistle

Thermal blanket

Heavy duty scissors and a zip-lock bag

Sticker and magnet (featuring important information)

A Family Disaster Preparedness Booklet

A comprehensive First Aid Kit in a hard case, containing alcohol pads, povidone iodine, cotton balls, sterile gauze, medical tape, adhesive antiseptic strips, and both triangular and elastic bandages.

Crucially, the program integrates digital tools for education. The booklet, sticker, and magnet all feature a QR code. When scanned, this code links residents to an instructional video detailing the contents of the emergency go-bag and providing guidance on their proper use.

The Family Disaster Preparedness Booklet also includes a checklist to encourage residents to personalize their kits by adding essential family items like extra clothes, non-perishable food, and important documents.

Expanding Preparedness City-Wide
Mayor Sotto also shared details on other concurrent emergency preparedness projects throughout the city:

Schools: Students and other school stakeholders will receive hard hats and whistles, with distribution set at a 1:1 ratio per classroom chair, significantly boosting safety during drills and actual emergencies.

City Employees: The local government is also preparing employee go-bags to ensure its own workforce is equipped to respond and assist the community during crises.

The widespread distribution of these emergency resources underscores Pasig City’s commitment to building a resilient and prepared citizenry.
